Who is eligible ?

Griffin Academy, a foster care emancipation prep school, accepts foster care youth ages 16 to 20 years old from anywhere in Ohio, 

  • Youth must be placed or residing in the Montgomery, Greene, Darke, Miami, or Preble County area. 
  • Students must demonstrate the ability to read and write in English at a minimum 4th grade level. 
  • Additionally, students should be physically capable of completing the vocational trades training program, which includes essential skills in construction trades such as plumbing. 
  • Emancipated youth must also be enrolled in the Bridges program, supporting their transition planning and contributing to rebuilding Ohio's skilled labor workforce as part of our workforce development efforts for teenagers.

What services are offered?

 

Griffin Academy Program Highlights

  • Education: On-site GED preparation and tailored online college courses.
  • Vocational Training: Skills training in construction trades.
  • Life Skills & Financial Literacy: On-site, hands-on training and practical experiences for independent living and financial planning.
  • Career Preparation & Placement: On-site testing, local company collaboration for workforce development, and job placement services through partnerships focused on rebuilding Ohio's skilled labor workforce.
  • Mentoring & Support: On-site mentoring and tutoring, with social worker (SW) meetings available via Zoom.
  • Transition Services: Assistance with housing planning and implementation post-emancipation, plus collaboration with the Bridges Program prior to graduation.
  • Student Logistics: Transportation to and from classes, a weekly student allowance, and monthly status reports.

How to place a foster care teen

It's as easy as 1-2-3 to enroll in Griffin Academy, a foster care emancipation prep school dedicated to rebuilding Ohio's skilled labor workforce.

  • then schedule a visit and student interview to discuss our programs in construction trades.

Q. What geographic area is eligible for enrollment in Griffin Academy?


A. Foster care youth ages 16 to 20 years old from anywhere in Ohio who are placed or residing in the Montgomery, Greene, Darke, Miami or Preble County area can enroll in Griffin Academy, a foster care emancipation prep school.


Q. What are the Griffin Academy hours of operation?


A. Classes at Griffin Academy are held from 8:00 am to 3:30 pm, Monday through Friday, year-round. This schedule provides consistent opportunities for teenagers in foster care to engage in workforce development, particularly in skilled labor fields like construction trades and plumbing.


Q. Does a Foster Care Teen have to wait for a new semester to begin classes?


A. Understanding the nature of foster care placements, Griffin Academy will initiate a new class every 8 weeks. This ensures that all eligible foster care teens can start their journey towards successful emancipation and workforce development without unnecessary delays, helping to contribute to rebuilding Ohio's skilled labor workforce.
